What are you reading at the moment? Tell us a little about the book – in your own words please.(no spoilers please!)

I just finished reading Jim Butcher's newest Dresden Files book - White Night. This is the 8th book in the series of Harry Dresden. He's a wizard in the city of Chicago. If you get the Sci Fi channel, you can watch it once a week, although the books of course are different from the tv series. There, how's that - no spoilers :-)

What books have you added to your to-be-read pile recently?

Katie MacAlister's - Last of the Red Hot Vampires
Samantha Graves - Sight Unseen
Melanie Jackson's - Writ on Water
Kerrelyn Sparks's - Be Still My Vampire Heart
Kim Harrison's - For a Few Demons More
This is just in the last week

Do you like to hang onto your books once you’ve read them or do you give them away? If you hang onto them, do you like to lend them out?

It depends on the book and author. I have like 5 bookcases (and I'm in the middle of sorting and trying to get space)and they're all full. Paperbacks on the shelves are 2 deep Hardbacks of course aren't. If I don't care for the book for some reason I usually sell them on Amazon, half.com or eBay. that way I can continue to support my book habit. As for the ones I hang onto, I re-read them. I've got a couple of books that are about 20 years old and I've read them so many times they're falling apart.

Have you read anything really good recently that you’d like to recommend to other readers? (it doesn’t matter if it’s an old book – or a new-to-you author with an old book!) Tell us why the book appealed to you.

This is easy, there's one book I've had for like 20 years it's by Lee Damon - and the title is - Sunrise Sunset. This book has action, adventure, romance, (sex of course) and it tells a story, a really really deep moving story. I wish Ms. Damon had written more with these characters I'd have bought them immediately. As for why it appeals to me - I've tried explaining it over the years with out much luck - the depth of feeling between the characters, the things that happen not only to the main charcaters but also to the secondary ones, ther's just something that holds my attention each and every time I"ve read it.

What themes or plots are particularly favorite with you when you’re trying to unwind and relax? Do you prefer certain type of book when you want to block the world out for a short while?

I've always loved what's now called paranormal romance, and years ago it was next to impossible to find any type of fantasy but thankfully that's changed! Most times when I rea\ch for a book it'll have sometype of fantasy/paranormal theme to it. While waiting for hte publishgin world to agree with me I found some great authors - Julie Garwod, Lori Foster, Jayne Ann Krentz, etc.

How many books do you read on average each month?

I'm a fast reader, and can average at least 1 book a eday - depending on length. So at least 30 book a month is my average.

Can you read anywhere anytime or do you have a particular habit when it comes to reading? (for example, do you have a favorite place you like to sit and read? Do you prefer to have no noise when you’re reading? Can you only read at night? Etc.)

Nope no preferences, other than a comfy chair, decent light, and something to drink (juice, hot coco, pop) and a snack at hand.

Let’s say you’ve just gotten a book that sounded great but as you sit down to read it, you find it’s not capturing your interest. Do you give it another chance at a later time or do you write it off as ‘not your type’ and move onto something else, never to look back again?

I've had this happen many times, and only 1 time have I consignede it to the never to be looked at again. I've discovered that I have to be "ready" "in the mood" for some books otherwise they just don't do it fo rme. I usually give the book a second and sometimes even a 3rd chance. Sometimes it doesn't help, sometimes it does.

If you had an extra $100 to spend only on books right now – this month – what other books would you add to your to-be-read pile?

ROTFLOL - let me get my notebook -
White Lies - Jayne Ann Krentz
Hell's Belles - Jackie Kessler
Shards of Crimson - Anthology
Spellbinder - Melanie Rawn
The Dead Room - Heather Graham
One With The Night - Susan Squires
Smoke Thief - Shana Abe
Slow Burn - Julie Garwood
Grave Sight - Charlaine Harris
Curse the Dark - Laura Ann Gilman
Wolf Who Rules - Wen Spencer - Sci-Fi NOT romance
All NIght Long - Jayne Ann Krentz
I'll stop there I could go on, but the rest don't come out till next month I believe

What are some of your other hobbies besides reading?

My furbabies, ceramics (I make and sell the ceramics), playing and talking on the computer with friends watching tv.

Thanks, Tammy! :)

Name: Melissa B, but many know me as Mimmi
Location: Elizabethtown, Kentucky
Bio: I'm an AVID reader. I love books~~the only qualifier I really have is that it has to have an HEA. I've been reading since I was in my early teens, and cut my teeth on Johanna Lindsey and Nora Roberts, and still love them both today!! I've been on the net for about 11 years, and I still remember one of the first things I did was go to lightst.com, Nora Roberts' website. It was the highlight of getting on the net for me, and I've been hooked on book sites, author sites, review sites, and chats ever since!!
I've found so many wonderful books and authors on the net, that I would never have known about if it wasn't for the great sites out there. I've found many, many great friends on the net, and met tons of great fans like myself, and incredible authors. I'm Moderator of an AWESOME chat list, (Wicked Writers, which features authors Cathryn Fox, Charlene Teglia, Mackenzie McKade, Shelley Bradley/Shayla Black, and Sylvia Day~~and lots of other wonderful authors are on the loop, and are a BLAST to chat with!! You just never know what's going to be said next ) and am active on several boards, and am a test reader.
I LOVE Romance!!

What are you reading at the moment? Tell us a little about the book – in your own words please.

I'm actually reading an ARC of Sandra Hills Pink Jinx~~it's a laugh a minute, which you know if you're a Sandra Hill fan. It's the second book in her new Jinx Inc. series~~this one features ex-seal Caleb Peachy, who is managing his first project for Jinx Inc, and the zany archaeologist, Claire Cassidy, who is a consultant on this cave "diving" expedition. It's got Tante Lulu, who everyone knows from the Cajun series, and a whole host of zany characters. I can't wait to finish it, it's great, and I haven't stopped laughing!!

What books have you added to your to-be-read pile recently?

Oh, Wow!! This could go on for days....I'll share some of B&N wish list....
Obsession - Karen Robards,
Raintree: Inferno - Linda Howard
Wild Thing - Maggie Shayne, Marjorie M. Liu, Meljean Brook, Alyssa Day
The Demon You Know: A Novel of the Others - Christine Warren

Gideon: The Nightwalkers - Jacquelyn Frank

Do you like to hang onto your books once you’ve read them or do you give them away? If you hang onto them, do you like to lend them out?

If I really like them, or if they're a series I am wanting to read, yes, I hang onto them. And NO, I don't loan my books out. I will occasionally let my Mom read one, but if it's what I call a KEEPER, of which I have hundreds, I'll just go buy it for her so I don't have to worry about getting it back, or it being 'hurt'. And I have many books I've been lucky enough to get signed, and NO ONE touches those, lol.

Have you read anything really good recently that you’d like to recommend to other readers? Tell us why the book appealed to you.

Alyssa Day, Atlantis Rising. She is a new to me author, but this book sounded good, so I tried it. And I hit the jack pot. This series promises to be on of the reigning series in paranormal, it's that good. If you haven't read it, DO. You're missing out. What more can I say?

Alluring Tales: Awaken the Fantasy, ViviAnna, Sasha White, Sylvia Day, Lisa Renee Jones, Delilah Devlin~~this book is EXCELLENT. Every story in it was wonderful. Very seldom do you pick up an anthology and every story is a hit, but this one hit the bulls eye. The stories are very different, but each excellent on it's own. Get this book, you will not be dissapointed.

What themes or plots are particularly favorite with you when you’re trying to unwind and relax?

Depends on my mood. Lately I've had a definite tendre for paranormal~~especially shape shifters, but anything paranormal. And I'm a seasonal reader~~I have books I pop out every Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and so on...I've read them many times, but have to read them again each year.

Do you prefer a certain type of book when you want to block the world out for a short while?

I do have my comfort reads. Don't we all? My Julie Garwoods, Linda Howards, Nora Roberts~~and there are quite a few more, well, many are falling apart because they're my security reads. If I'm feeling down I know they'll make me feel better.

How many books do you read on average each month?

Wow, that depends. I'd have to say average 25. I will go w/out sleep if it's a great book, and have been known to haunt the bookstore waiting for a book to come in. If I have to decide between sleep and reading, reading always wins!!

Can you read anywhere anytime or do you have a particular habit when it comes to reading?

I carry a book with me everywhere~~I will read in the car, in the Dr's office, etc...I don't have to have silence, but I prefer quiet when reading. I love to curl up at night in my bed and read. It's my favorite place, and I like to have a BOOK, so I've yet to succumb to an e reader. Yes, I buy many e books~~and print them out so I can read them, lol.

Let’s say you’ve just gotten a book that sounded great but as you sit down to read it, you find it’s not capturing your interest. Do you give it another chance at a later time or do you write it off as ‘not your type’ and move onto something else, never to look back again?

I give it another chance. I'm very much a phase reader, and sometimes want everything to be paranormal, or suspense, or spicey~~so I will always try a book at least twice. If I still can't get into it, it's not for me. BUT I have recently discovered that I CAN read 1st person, and I've been missing out on those for years. I had a mental block going on that, and wouldn't even give them a chance. Then Linda Howard wrote one...and I HAD to read it. Then I tried a few others, and am discovering new books I've missed all the time!!

If you had an extra $100 to spend only on books right now – this month – what other books would you add to your to-be-read pile?

Lush - Sasha White
The Taste of Innocence (Cynster Series) - Stephanie Laurens
Champion - Heather Grothaus
High Noon - Nora Roberts
Devil Who Tamed Her - Johanna Lindsey
Double Take: An FBI Thriller - Catherine Coulter

What are some of your other hobbies besides reading?

I love to shop, and have a serious shoe and purse fetish. I have a 14 year old daughter, Alyx, and we love to shop and go to the bookstore and hang out w/ friends. I love to travel, go to author signings, and I love to garden!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with me!

Thanks for asking me~~I enjoyed it, and LOVE your site!!

Name: Shauna E.
Location: Swift Current, Sk. Canada
Bio: I have been married for going on 10 years this June. I am a stay at home mom for my 2 kids, a daughter who is 8 and my son who is 5. I am just waiting for them to be in school full time before I look for something I can do while they are in school. I love to read all the time and I bake goodies for everyone I know, especially if I found a new recipe that looks delicious. So my husband always has goodies to take to work. I also love to watch movies and go fishing with my family as often a possible.

What are you reading at the moment? Tell us a little about the book – in your own words please.

Right now, I am reading The Devil's Teardrop by Jeffery Deaver. It is about an attack on Washington, D.C. from a man who can only be told to stop by one person who is killed. They bring in a man who can tell all about a person from their writing. They ned to find the shooter before the next deadline or there will be a horrible shootout. I am only 1/4 way in but am finding it to be a very good read, with me waiting to see if they will catch him in time.

What books have you added to your to-be-read pile recently?

In my to be read pile I have:
Airframe by Michael Crichton,
Countdown by Iris Johansen
Missing Pieces by Joy Fielding

Do you like to hang onto your books once you’ve read them or do you give them away? If you hang onto them, do you like to lend them out?

There are a few authors I hang onto especially if I loved the story. I collect alot of horror, such as Stephen King and Bentley Little and other authors that catch my attention. I do lend books out to friends and family but do tend to check up on them just to make sure I get them back as I do love my books.

Have you read anything really good recently that you’d like to recommend to other readers? Tell us why the book appealed to you.

I recently read The Line Painter by Claire Cameron. I really liked this book, which I found to be a story of forgiveness for oneself after a tragedy in her life and of discovery and learning what she could handle in her life. I have recommended this book to my friends and am lending to friends as well. I think this is a good read for everybody.

What themes or plots are particularly favorite with you when you’re trying to unwind and relax? Do you prefer certain type of book when you want to block the world out for a short while?

My favorite reads are mystery with lots of twists in the plot, I love to guess what is going on. These and horror are what I read the most when I need a break from everything. Something that couldn't hopefully happen and get my mind wandering. Other times I like to read stories of overcoming tragedy and hardcomings, reading about what people do to get over the hardships in their life and accomplish what they want.

How many books do you read on average each month?

I read on average 10 - 12 books a month. I am a very fast reader.

Can you read anywhere anytime or do you have a particular habit when it comes to reading?

I can read anywhere, anytime, no matter what is going on around me. Where ever I go a book goes with me, in case I can fit in some reading time. A book is never to far from my hand. I can read whether its noisy or quiet and in my house its usually pretty noisy.

Let’s say you’ve just gotten a book that sounded great but as you sit down to read it, you find it’s not capturing your interest. Do you give it another chance at a later time or do you write it off as ‘not your type’ and move onto something else, never to look back again?

I will set the book down and read something else and go back at a later date. For me sometimes I have to be in a certain mood to read certain types of books or they will hold no appeal for me. I then find by going back later I will be able to get into the book. I am usually pretty good at judging when and what type of book I am ready to read.

If you had an extra $100 to spend only on books right now – this month – what other books would you add to your to-be-read pile?

Right now, I'd add the rest of the Harry Potter series to see how it goes. I'd also add in Husband by Dean Koontz, some more of Joy Fielding and I would go see the sale sections where I would load up on authors I have never read before. Since you never know when you will find a new author that you'll love to read. Which is one way I find new authors to try out.

What are some of your other hobbies besides reading?

They are baking, trying new recipes, listening to music and going fishing.

Thanks, Shauna!
