Dear Reader,

I (the author and silly person) have been reading for... decades. Every now and then you run across a story where a woman must, for various reasons, dress as a man to get...something important to her. In the Regency Genre usually the quick witted, sexy and perceptive man who is going to be the hero figures out that he is a she within two paragraphs.

Noooooo, says the author, quoting Master Chuen (from the Destroyer series) We are better than that!!!

We have Fa Mulan, the inspiration for the Disney story - who was so good at being a man that she rose to be a General. We have historical references that say during the time of the Napoleonic wars a woman disguised herself as a man and served in the NAVY as a physician. She was only found out when she died during a battle.

So, says I, we are better than that.

And, I remember from way back, the Colombo TV series. Colombo once asked a magician how they made things disappear. The answer was, distraction - beautiful female assistant, turn it into something else or don't have it in the first place.

Here I am with a strong opinion - women are better as disguising themselves as men than authors will allow and I need to hide her femininity in plain sight in such a way that no one will notice or comment.

Therefore did my character, Millicent, become Mr. North. The Fool! Here's the official blurb and if you should happen to purchase my book at Amazon, I do hope you'll enjoy it as much as I loved writing it!

After the death of her miserly cousin Antony North, Millicent Boarder is determined her family should never be poor or vulnerable again. To protect them she conceals her cousin’s death and assumes his identity. Now she must face the Ton and the world as Mr. North and accept the price she must pay for her family’s safety—she will never be loved. Which means, of course, at this point she will meet the perfect man.
